The Chrysalis Boutique-Starting a business

Image
Soooooo. I'm starting a business. I'm excited, nervous and determined.  With everything I have going on I've got the nerve to start a business. As a child,  I knew wanted to be a CEO. I love music so much I thought it would be a record label. God has a way of motivating you to get to your intended destination.  The desire to pursue this venture comes for a variety of reasons.  I've been with my current employer for over seventeen years. I'm still bewildered by that number. It's been a great source of income and other revenue.  Most of my coworkers have been a hair client at one time or another. As a single mother that helped out a lot.  Lately I've felt unfulfilled with the job. I know there is more to this life than this nine to five.  I used to love my job and now it's a push to get out the bed to go. I help people with mental health disabilities with their finances. For a time this was fulfilling however, these days things have changed at the job.

Checks and Balances

Checks and balances....A day in the life of this queen is non-stop. My schedule is planned a month in advance. A full-time job, a full-time husband and sons, making time for family events, setting up 3 businesses, preparing our personal finances to buy a second home, photo shoots , fashion shows, content for the blog, getting on a social media schedule, scheduling clients for hair appointments, finding ways to increase my income and reduce debt, opening my online boutique, selling property, dealing with disgruntled family members and maintaining the few true friendships I have.  I'm forever planning, building, laying foundation, or maintaining something, and all the while with a smile.  When do I find the time to balance this life? My peace is found in prayer. My balance is the small moments with my family laughing, cooking, sitting on my porch, listening to music with my husband, and remembering why I'm doing all this in the first place. To have a legacy to leave my child

Growing Pains

Image
Well I'm half way thru the month and I've made it thru two fashion shows and two birthdays my oldest son twenty-one years old and the youngest turned three. Witnessing my first born turn twenty-one and find his way in this world has been the hardest thing to watch.  My daily confession has always been Lord, I trust you with my son. I have confessed that  incessantly  in the last two years.  We didn't have a hard strenuous relationship when he was young. He stayed clear of trouble and we were always able to talk openly. I recall telling him when he turned 17 that our relationship was about to change and it was going to be hard. That statement rang true sooner than later. In the last two years, I’ve cried, questioned who I was as a mother and blamed myself for where he was in life. Had I given him too much? Where did I miss it? How did we get here? My husband gave me some much needed tough love. I am a good parent, but he was growing up and I had to let him. In life there ar

RVA FALL FASHION WEEK 2018

Image
They did it again.... RVA Fall Fashion Week 2018 presented designers,  boutiques and models exquisitely.  From the venues selected, the models,  the hair and make up team, and the  variety in creations presented were nothing short of amazing. Whether you were in the mood for a classic, edgy, futuristic, young or casual look. The designers and boutiques had you covered. I was able to capture some behind the scenes candid photos. What happens to make those 15-20 seconds on the runway magically. Directors Jimmy Buddy , Marion Batts, Jameson Deloatch , Michael Hosteler , and Soliel Paden did a phenomenal job putting on this week of events. I always have a great time taking part in RVA Fashion Week.  If you ever get the chance to catch an event presented by RVA Fashion Week either in the Spring or Fall you are in for a treat.   Photo Credit: Eyez of the Tygah Photography A.D. Billionaires Row Birthday Bash

T alk about a celebration. The Benson's know to how to throw a birthday bash. Over the weekend I had the pleasure to celebrate the birthday of Danni Benson. The wife of CEO William Benson of Billionaires Row. The event  was held at the Vnyl in Manhattan on 3rd Avenue. Three floors of non-stop partying. As the crowd begin to gather awaiting the arrival of the Queen. The bottles of Billionaires Row champagne and brandy were ready for the celebration to begin. The Bensons party in style. The Queen arrived in red and white floral floor length gown. With red sparkle shoes that Dorothy from Wizard of Oz would envy.  The Queen greeted her guest with kisses, hugs and photos.  The Queen Danni and her Day 1 ladies were the centerpieces to every photo. Of course no party would be complete without the serenade of the Happy Birthday song. Then the queen said let them eat cake. Guest partied and danced well into the morning.  The party-goers that remain closed out the morning with a small

Evolution of a Queen : Interview with Liris Crosse

Image
You cannot be in the plus industry and not know the name Liris Crosse . In April I attended the 5th Anniversary of District of Curves with host Liris Crosse . I've been a fan of Liris since I saw her in BestMan. I had not started my modeling journey yet but she's been an inspiration to me ever since.  I've finally met this ever evolving Queen at the  2015 Full Figured Fashion Week and then attended her Life of A Working Model Bootcamp . If you are an aspiring model just getting started in the industry this is a bootcamp that can get you ready. She continues to be a light and gatekeeper to those coming behind her in the modeling industry.  I had the honor of interviewing this beautiful busy spirit after the event. A.D. Reigns : What do you enjoy most about Hosting/ Modeling? Liris: As far as hosting I enjoy getting out there commanding the audience and interacting with the people! There’s nothing like feeling the energy of the crowd. Recently I hosted District Of Curve
